Flowline Health
Last time I wrote, I talked about the need for focus. One market. One use case. One amazing wedge product.
In pursuit of that wedge, I’ve been exploring a ton of niche provider types, and problems that they face. I can’t fully go into the details right now, as many of these are active customer conversations, but honestly, the search itself is part of what’s been holding me back from publishing this newsletter. God forbid I don’t find product-market fit in two weeks!
But still, we've had a strong month. Here are some highlights worth celebrating.
One of our customers is coming out of pilot! And we’re seeing awesome results. Without saying too much, I especially loved this project because it involved us going deep into our customers’ operations, rethinking how they can leverage data alongside Voice AI, and delivering an agent that was very different from (but 10x better than) what we initially proposed.
The project was admittedly harder than we expected, but the partnership with the customer and delivering an awesome solution in the end make it all worth it.
We expanded a contract with an existing customer (by like 4x). To do so, we’ve built out an awesome new capability. Our agent can now navigate healthcare UIs in a HIPAA-compliant manner to handle all the button clicking, copying, and manual data entry work that would otherwise bore a human to tears.
Story of the week:
I was locked. Stranded in Mexico without my dopamine binky.
Have you heard of The Brick? It’s a small device that blocks you from accessing certain apps on your phone (Instagram, YouTube, and, unfortunately, LinkedIn for me). Once you’re locked, you can’t get into apps until you tap your phone to the brick.
Well, because of a poorly set timer, I accidentally bricked my phone while visiting my Dad in Mexico. Thousands of miles away from the device that unlocks it.
Upon realizing my mistake, my first thought was “OH NO! I can’t scroll Instagram until I get home.”
But then I realized: “I can’t scroll Instagram until I get home!”
The universe had given me the gift of focus.
Thought bugs:
Most people would rather stay in a job they hate than stomach the uncertainty of leaving.
Uncertainty is a tax the human mind hates to pay. This is largely due to what the late Daniel Kahneman called “loss aversion”, or the observation that humans weigh losses at roughly 2x the value of an equivalent gain.
i.e. losing 100 Euros feels far worse than gaining 100 Euros.
So when you’re wandering through uncertainty, the threat of the potential negative outcomes can loom over us much more than the excitement of potential wins.
But here’s the thing: no disproportionate gain will ever come without wandering through the mist of uncertainty. Its discomfort is not a warning sign; it’s the price of admission.
